P2 exploring Spring in Glenlyon
P2 took a walk to Glenlyon this week. We looked and listened for signs of spring. We enjoyed exploring the woods and hunting for creatures.
As part of our HPS Goes Wild Project we have planted five apple trees to our school grounds. Two of these are a donation from The Conservation Volunteers and the remaining three were purchased with the Pollinator’s Grant we received from Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful. These trees are a mix of cooking apples and eating apples. They will encourage local pollinators to come and make their home in our school grounds. P4 Room 6 assisted The Conservation Volunteers in planting them last Monday. They had a really good time and learned more about the role of trees in reducing our carbon footprint.
P3 classes from Holywood Primary School and Glencraig Integrated Primary School had an amazing time during the final Shared Education Day of the year.
The children created celebratory crowns, enjoyed using small world equipment to make new friends and to explore their imagination and had lots of fun in the PE hall completing mini games and taking turns on the 10ft bouncy castle slide.
Many thanks to all the parents who offered their assistance throughout the year, all the children had a brilliant time.
Some of our great P6 pupils got the opportunity to get out and about in Holywood. They even had time to stop off for a treat before heading back to HPS. All smiles from everyone!
We had lots of fun celebrating World Book Day! Lots of teachers and pupils dressed up as a character from books and looked fabulous. Key Stage Two pupils had a Book Tasting and enjoyed sampling lots of different genres!
Pupils enjoyed taking part in an online art lesson by Art Time, Let’s Shine for Children’s Mental Health Week. They used watercolours and oil pastels to create a landscape in the style of David Hockney. All the finished pieces look fantastic!
HPS pupils have been taking part in various wellbeing activities to celebrate Children’s Mental Health Week this week. As this year’s theme is Let’s Connect, pupils wore something blue or green to symbolise our connection as a school.
P7 enjoyed an informative trip to Mount Stewart on Monday where they heard all about the life and legacy of Lord Castlereagh. They also found out abou the different roles that people used to have run the house and had the opportunity to use old fashioned fountain pens with ink pots. The pupils represented HPS brilliantly and asked lots of well thought out questions to further their knowledge. Well done P7!
Ten P7 pupils enjoyed a morning playing hockey at the Ards and North Down Borough Council Hockey Blitz.
The team performed so well and won five out of the six matches they played. Each player worked incredibly hard, and showed great sportsmanship throughout the blitz. They were all absolutely delighted with their well-deserved medals too!
A huge thank you to all the parents and grandparents who helped with lifts and came along to support the team, it was much appreciated!
P4 have been learning about life on the homefront in their WW2 topic. They marked the end of the topic with a WW2 Day. This involved VE Day celebrations including a street party in the assembly hall, skipping games and old WW2 songs. Each child came to school dressed as an evacuee and received some sweet rations to enjoy! If you look carefully at the old black and white photos you might see some familar faces!
P3 classes from both Glencraig I.P.S and Holywood P.S. had a fantastic day out at the cinema as part of their Shared Education. The children also all received their colourful Shared Education T-shirts.
The children are already looking forward to their trips in the new year. Many thanks to The Stand Cinema for having us and to all the parent helpers who offered their assistance.
P6 have had great fun during Jingle Bell Rock! They were totally danced out by the end!
P6 enjoyed a visit from Belfast Giant defender Mark. He took time out of his busy day to call in and talk to all the pupils about the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. He also answered many questions about ice hockey.
P7 pupils enjoyed meeting Quinnipiac University’s ice hockey team. We told them all about Holywood Primary School and the sports we play here and the team spoke about ice hockey and taught the pupils some new skills. The pupils asked lots of interesting questions and loved meeting the players!
P4 have finished their Space topic by making junk models that are out of this world! We have been very impressed by the creativity shown in reusing old materials to make rockets, satellites, astronauts and solar systems! These models will be on display in the school foyer from Wednesday 15th of November.
