Run Run Rudolph!
HPS had a festive filled Friday dressed in our favourite Christmas clothing to complete the Daily Mile . The children across P1-P7 wore all things merry and bright to bring some seasonal festive cheer while completing 12 laps of the main playground for our Santa Run while lots of Christmas tunes played on the speaker!
The Daily Mile is a simple and free initiative which gets children out of the classroom for 15 minutes every day, to walk, run, jog or wheel at your own pace. Whilst making them fitter, healthier and able to concentrate in the classroom, it has huge social and emotional benefits too.
HPS were among many schools across Northern Ireland, to get moving on the same day, to celebrate the positive benefits that daily activity can have on our mental health.
Check out some of the festive fun in the photos below:

Mr Atcheson organised a sports quiz for the P6 pupils against five volunteers from Harvard. Through lots of Holywood Sport trivia and challenges the Holywood pupils won by one point! Well done to Jake, Danny and Martha for displaying their skills in the challenges. The team showed the HPS pupils some ice hockey skills and then had some time to answer questions. They have very kindly given the P6 pupils tickets to watch their game. Good luck Harvard! We’ll all be cheering you on!

Dunville Garden Eco Schools Celebration
Members of our school Eco Committee attended a community celebration today at Dunville Gardens at Redburn. They were one of four local schools represented, they learned a little of the history of the Dunville Garden and had the opportunity to go on a bug hunt and build mini beast homes. Our pupils engaged enthusiastically and demonstrated great knowledge of insects and wildlife. A big thank you to Lauren from the Ulster Conservation Volunteers for organising the event and the Holywood Shared Town initiative for funding it. The garden is open on a Monday and Saturday to the pubic and is well worth a visit.

P4 Trip to Lough Neagh Discovery Centre
The P4 year group loved their days at the Lough Neagh Discovery Centre this week. We have been learning about Lough Neagh as part of our Northern Ireland topic. We had great fun pond dipping and searching for mini beast in the woodlands area. These activities brought to life our current school Eco topics of biodiversity and marine life; it was fascinating to learn about the interdependence of local food chains and the importance of the Lough Neagh fly! The play park was also a great hit!
