Breaktime in the garden

Miss Riddell's class made the most of the good weather and enjoyed having their healthy breaks and a 'wee chat' outside in the garden area. Fingers crossed there will be many more opportunities like this (if the good old NI weather keeps up!)

P2 Room 8 - getting lost

Room 8 took assembly this week. They told a story about a boy named Tom who had lost his pet rabbit.  Tom asked for help from safe adults and was able to find his rabbit again. Room 8 told everyone some important rules to remember if they ever get lost and acted out a story of a girl getting lost in the supermarket and the Parable of the lost sheep. They really enjoyed reciting their poem and acting on stage.

P1 Room 1 - Telling the truth

P1 Room1 took assembly on Wednesday 4th February.  We talked about being honest and not telling lies.

One group told a story from our reading books about blaming each other for something they didn’t do.

Another larger group told the story of ‘The boy who cried wolf.’   Toby was the shepherd boy and Finlay was a scary wolf.

Everyone remembered their lines and where they had to stand.  Mrs. Wallace was very proud of the whole class.

P7 Trip to IKEA - March 2014

P7 Children at IKEA

P7 Children at IKEA

What a great morning our P7 children had at IKEA and an amazing opportunity and learning tool. Thanks to Nigel our fantastic Young Enterprise volunteer, who as ever went that little bit further for us!

It was lovely to receive very positive feedback about our boys and girls from members of the Business in the Community team too.

To quote Nigel from IKEA "The real stars are the kids and Holywood Primary School always produces a great bunch of future economists and marketeers ably led by the P7 teachers - thanks Mrs Stewart. The Marketing team were very impressed with the presentations that we all know are not easy carry out and particularly so when you are 11. They were brilliant."

Well done P7.

P5 at W5 in 2013

P5 at the W5 Crime Lab

P5 at the W5 Crime Lab

The P5s had an exciting trip to W5 today. They became forensic scientists for part of the day to solve the crime of the stolen computer. They undertook a crime investigation in the W5 lab using fingerprints, chromatography and fibre analysis to eliminate suspects.

The workshop reinforced their skills in investigative science including observation, recording, interpreting and evaluating results.

P2 Visit to Folk Museum

P2 enjoyed a trip to the Ulster Folk Museum. They visited the old town and enjoyed looking at how houses have changed, as part of their Houses and Homes topic.

They visited the farm house, baked soda bread, made straw crafts and washed laundry in the town through interactive workshops.

The children had a ride on an old fashioned bus and enjoyed exploring the old shops, houses and school.

The rain stayed away to give us a dry day and great fun was had by all.
