Safer Internet Day 2024

Tuesday 6th February 2024 is Safer Internet Day. This year’s theme is ‘Inspiring change? Making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online.’ Every class will spend time discussing the importance of staying safe online as well as completing some fun activities to reinforce this message. It would be great if you could have a chat with your child/children about internet safety and what they can do to ensure they stay safe online.

If you need more information you can visit the following website: https://saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/safer-internet-day-2024/parents-and-carers

For further help and advice on internet safety make sure to check out the Online Safety section of our website in the Parents menu.

Harry Sheridan returns to HPS

Harry Sheridan current Ulster Rugby Player and former Holywood Primary School pupil kindly popped into this afternoon to coach the rugby squad.

The children loved getting some expert tips, learning new drills and were able to ask Harry about what is like as a professional rugby player.

Thanks again to Harry for coming in and good luck for the rest of the season.

HPS House Mascot Winner

A massive congratulations to Sam in P7R13 from the Green House whose mascot ‘Finley the Falcon’ was selected as the HPS School Mascot for the 2023/24 school year. Sam represented all the school Houses in his brilliant design. Well done to all the P5-P7 pupils who entered in what was a very tough contest to decide the winner! We look forward to many more fun House competitions in the New Year!

SQUAD: Tate, Fraser, Cade, Luke, Harry, James, Peter, James and Rudy

We look forward to more football fun in the new year. A big thank you again to all the parent helpers for their assistance and support on the day!

Pupils of Term 1

All pupils are taught to appreciate the importance that our school places on treating each other with kindness and supporting each other. That’s what the HPS team promote every day.

Well done to nine pupils who have shown acts of kindness and thoughtfulness that were noted by various members of staff this term.

Oscar & Taylor (P7) show great enthusiasm and display excellent behaviour during recorder lessons.

Maisie (P4) Mrs Harper noticed how helpful Maisie was when she cleared away all the cups in the Dining Hall without being asked.

Josh B & Ethan (P7) Both Josh and Ethan are always helping others and being kind. Well done!

Ella (P6) Well done to Ella. Mrs Cornish and other members of staff have noticed that Ella is a super Buddy in the P1-P3 playground.

Beth (P2) Beth is an extremely polite and helpful girl towards others at all times. Well done Beth !

Susanna (P6) for stepping in at the last minute to do a reading at the Carol Service. She read with confidence, Mrs Riddall and Mrs Crookshanks really appreciated what Susanna did. Well done Susanna.

Rudy & Emmy (P7) Both Rudy and Emmy have been really committed to the cycle programme. They have taken their responsibilities seriously, listened carefully, following instructions with great success!

Out and about in Holywood

Thanks to Mrs Forster, Hannah, Susanna, Toby and Jacob who went into Holywood to deliver posters advertising our Open Day which will be taking place in January. Thanks to all the local businesses for putting our posters in their shop windows.

A special thank you to Knotts, who very kindly gave each of the pupils a lovely bun to eat for their efforts! What a great community we have!

HPS are Feeling Festive

The whole of HPS had a fun filled start to December dressed in our festive clothing to complete the Daily Mile . The children across P1-P7 wore all things bright and beautiful to bring some seasonal festive cheer while completing 12 laps of the main playground for our Santa Run.

The Daily Mile is a simple and free initiative which gets children out of the classroom for 15 minutes every day, to walk, run, jog or wheel at your own pace. Whilst making them fitter, healthier and able to concentrate in the classroom, it has huge social and emotional benefits too.

HPS were among many schools across Northern Ireland, to get moving on the same day, to celebrate the positive benefits that daily activity can have on our mental health.

Check out some of the festive fun in the photos below:

P3 Rugby Blitz

P3 had great fun today when they met at Spafield playing fields to play some tag rugby alongside both Glencraig IPS and St Patricks. Both P3 classes have enjoyed the opportunity to develop their rugby skills during the coaching they have received with Holywood Rugby Club over the last number of weeks in their PE time.

At the event they got to take part in lots of small sided games and enjoyed the sunshine and mud! We mixed with lots of new and familiar faces - all while getting active and playing sport. A big thank you to all the parent helpers for their support and to Holywood RFC for having us down.

Check out the action in the photos below!
