Ten eager young athletes from HPS met at Ards Leisure centre ready to participate in North Down Athletics Day. After a warmup with the Athletics NI team, HPS began their field events. First up was the standing long jump with some great leaps from each person. Next was the speed bounce, a tricky event having to bounce sideways over a small hurdle as many times in 20 seconds, many reaching over 30 bounces. Having a short break to let’ jelly’ legs recover it was on to our 3rd field event, the chest throw. The children lifted the 2kg medicine ball and threw it from squat position as far as they could, not an easy feat! Finally, the javelin throw saw some almost reaching the other end of the hall! What strength and agility this team had!
The track events consisted of boys 1:1 relay and girls 1:1 relay, then boys obstacle race and girls obstacle race concluding the day with a 4:1 mixed relay race. Overall HPS came 2nd out of 11 and received a cup. All athletes from HPS did their very best, 1st and 2nd places were achieved in the events and everyone had a great day. Well Done HPS athletes.
